Freshmen Get a ‘Head Start’ at Frosh Assembly

The day before school officially began for Wolverines for the 2021-22 school year, freshmen met on campus.  Many of these bright-eyed students hadn’t been on a school campus since their 7th grade school year.

They were, however, able to get a solid idea of what it is to be a Wolverine.  Freshmen got the lay of the land on campus with a tour by other seasoned Wolverines, including ROTC and StuCo members, led by Master Sergeant Coates and Mrs. Rosie Peacock respectively.

Then, freshmen met with their “Wolver 5” mentor teachers to walk through the expectations of the school year, a newly-adopted program where TUHS teachers will work with freshmen throughout their four years of high school.  From getting students involved in clubs, working with their grades, guiding their FLEX, and mentoring their interests and career path, the program hopes to build a strong foundations for freshmen recovering online learning of the pandemic.

The highlight of the day was the Freshmen Assembly, one of the few assemblies that will happen on campus because the school is too large.

The theme?  Mario Kart.

StuCo leaders donned their favorite Mario Kart characters and walked freshmen through the year.

The highlight included games between the freshmen and their incoming teachers.

The theme of Mario Kart was truly the best choice for these high school rookies since high school is far from a race, but all about… the journey.

“It’s awesome to see the kids so involved with the spirit of the school,” says freshmen Annabelle R.  “It definitely was a great start to my first year of high school!”

TUHS leaders know that we can’t wait to see the Class of 2025 grow into amazing community leaders who grew up right here in Tolleson, Arizona.
